After toying with the idea for months, former Gov. Fife Symington said he won’t challenge popular Democratic Governor Napolitano in 2006.
In an interview with KPHO-TV on Wednesday night, the 59-year-old Mr. Symington said he’s keeping his current jobs running a consulting firm and working as a pastry chef at a Phoenix restaurant.
However, Mr. Symington did not rule out a future run for office.
Mr. Symington resigned from office in 1997 after being convicted by a federal jury of bank and wire fraud for actions taken as a developer prior to becoming governor. His conviction was overturned on appeal in June 1999, and President Clinton pardoned him in January 2001. —
