Agencies To Examine Meeting Northern Arizona’s Water Demands

Arizona Capitol Reports Staff//August 5, 2005//[read_meter]

Federal and state agencies are teaming up to fund studies that will look at different ways to meet northern Arizona’s water demands.

Engineering, finances, environmental impacts and water rights will be among the issues to be studied.

The first phase will look at what is considered to be “low-hanging fruit,” the most plausible alternatives to meet the demand for ground and surface water.

Of the eight water sources evaluated in this phase, each will be subject to several studies to determine its desirability at various regional supply levels.

For example, the difference between using Lake Powell for Flagstaff, and extending that service to Williams.

These studies will help determine the best combination of regional importation systems to meet demand. —
