The Pima County Board of Supervisors has unanimously appointed Paula Aboud to serve as senator for Tucson’s District 28, completing the term of Democrat Gabrielle Giffords, who resigned to run for Congress.
“I’m very honored by the Supervisors and District 28,” Ms. Aboud said after the Jan. 3 announcement.
Ms. Aboud, who previously ran unsuccessfully for Tucson City Council, was one of three nominees selected by the District 28 Democratic Precinct Committeemen. The others were state representatives David Bradley and Ted Downing.
Ms. Aboud ran for Tucson city council in 2001. She was a UA basketball star and collegiate tennis coach. She is the founder of Ward 3 Neighbors and is immediate past president of the Democrats of Greater Tucson.
