Resignations and Governor’s appointments
Gilbert Jimenez is leaving his post as director of the Arizona Department of Commerce. A press release from Governor Napolitano’s office announcing his departure says Mr. Jimenez is leaving to spend more time with his family. He was appointed to the post by Ms. Napolitano in 2003.
Jan Lesher, is the new director of the Arizona Department of Commerce. Ms. Lesher now heads the Governor’s Southern Arizona Office, a post she has held since 2003. She is a member of the Arizona Women’s Political Caucus and has been on the board of directors for the Greater Tucson Economic Council. Kristin Almquist will replace Ms. Lesher. Ms. Almquist is director of Community Development for Habitat for Humanity in Tucson.
Arizona Department of Real Estate Commissioner Elaine Richardson announced her resignation. Ms. Richardson, who plans to retire to Tucson, was appointed to that post by Governor Napolitano in 2003. Ms. Richardson served in the Legislature for 10 years prior to her appointment. Richard C. Simmonds, who has served the agency for more than a decade, will act as interim commissioner.
Jerry Oliver Sr. is the new director of the Arizona Department of Liquor Licenses and Control. Mr. Oliver is currently the deputy director of the Arizona Department of Administration. He replaces Leesa Berens Morrison, who has been named director of the Arizona Department of Homeland Security, replacing Frank Navarette, who recently resigned after serving in that post since 2003.
