Five oak trees were planted at the Capitol June 8 in honor of water lobbyist Michael J Brophy.
Mr. Brophy was an attorney with the Phoenix from of Ryley Carlock & Applewhite where he concentrated on water and environmental law. He was a member of the Western States Water Council form 1991 – 2002 and was chair of the Water Policy Committee with the Greater Phoenix Chamber of Commerce. He also negotiated water rights settlements for the Gila River, Salt River Pima-Maricopa, Fort McDowell and Ak-Chin Indian Communities and the San Carlos Apache Tribe.
Mr. Brophy died Sept. 18, 2006. He was 57.
The five trees, planted in Wesley Bolin Plaza, were donated by Elgin Tree Farms. The event was hosted by the Arizona Nursery Association.
