GOP Chairman Randy Pullen has named Horst Kraus, president of the Grand Canyon Pachyderm Club, to the party’s finance committee. Kraus owns and operates the Shangri La Ranch, a nudist resort at New River. The Pachyderm Club is one of 60 in the U.S. and is allied with the Republican Party.
Poll
Gov. Janet Napolitano would beat Sen. John McCain if the two went head-to-head in an election, according to a new poll. The Rocky Mountain Poll of 629 Arizona found that in a hypothetical head-to-head race for McCain’s Senate seat, 47 percent of those polled would vote for Napolitano, 36 percent for the sitting Republican senator, and 17 percent were undecided. Obituary
The city manager of Cottonwood collapsed and died while running, officials said. City Manager Brian Mickelsen, 49, died Aug. 18. He was a life-long runner and frequently used the route where he died. Police Cmdr. Jack Stapleton said Mickelsen “runs in that area often. There is no indication of anything amiss.” Mickelsen worked for the city for more than 20 years. He is survived by his wife Lin, and sons Dane and Ky.
