Awards
Tamara Woodbury, CEO of the Girl Scouts — Arizona Cactus-Pine Council, was awarded the Greater Phoenix Chamber of Commerce 2007 ATHENA Businesswoman of the Year at the Chamber’s 20th Annual ATHENA Award Luncheon held Oct. 25 at the Arizona Biltmore Resort & Spa.
Woodbury was recognized by the chamber for her leadership in the non-profit community and her efforts in bringing needed support to underserved school districts.
She serves on Gov. Janet Napolitano’s Task Force for improving outcomes for incarcerated women and their children, she’s a member of the ASU President’s Community Enrichment program, the city of Phoenix Youth and Education Commission, and has worked on creating the Social Action Research Project of the Murphy Learning Community for the Murphy School District.

McCollister’s Transportation Systems Southwest, Inc., was honored recently by nationwide household goods carrier Mayflower Transit for exceptional professional performance at the organization’s 2007 conference in Hollywood, Fla.
McCollister’s, an agent of Mayflower Transit, received the organization’s Million Dollar Club Award for reaching the $4 million level and a Fleet Safety Award for these achievements during 2006.

Government
Pearlette J. Ramos has joined the Arizona Department of Liquor Licenses and Control as assistant director. A lawyer by trade, Ramos is being tapped to provide administrative leadership over the department’s Compliance and Audit sections as well as management services.
Ramos holds a bachelor’s degree from Methodist College in Fayetteville, N.C., where she double majored in psychology and business administration.  In 1995, she earned her juris doctorate from Case Western Reserve University School of Law of Cleveland. She is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in transpersonal psychology.
• Rep. Lena Saradnik, D-26, has been chosen by the Council of State Governments-WEST to participate in its Western Legislative Academy. The institute provides training in public policy for newer state legislators.
Admission to the academy is highly competitive and is based on commitment to public service, desire to improve personal legislative effectiveness and interest in improving the legislative process.

The academy will be held Nov. 5-8 in Colorado Springs, Colo. The Council of State Governments-WEST is a region of the national Council of State Governments, a nonpartisan organization, based in Lexington, Ky.

• Kelly Warren has been appointed deputy director of the Arizona Department of Juvenile Corrections (ADJC), a position that will have her taking on command of all agency operations.
She has served as the department’s assistant director for programs and institutions since June 2006 and previously she was the department’s director of clinical services. Warren earned a bachelor’s degree from Central State University in Ohio. Additionally she holds a doctorate in psychology from Dayton, Ohio’s Wright State University. 

• Dianne Gadow, former ADJC deputy director, has accepted the role of administrator for strategic design for the agency.  In her new role, she will be responsible to help craft long-term strategic planning, accreditation, and special project initiatives.
• Ruth Osuna, Phoenix deputy city manager, has been chosen to serve as Phoenix Mayor Phil Gordon’s chief of staff. Prior to joining the City Manager’s Office last May, Osuna served as program director for Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC) in Phoenix, an organization dedicated to helping with the work of non-profit community development corporations.

• Bill Scheel will advance from deputy chief of staff to serve as senior deputy chief of staff.
• Marchelle Franklin, will move from her position as senior assistant to the mayor to fill the deputy chief of staff position.
