Sen. Jon Kyl and Congressman John Shadegg have added their support for the campaign to pass the controversial Proposition 101, a constitutional amendment that will appear on November's ballot.
The Freedom of Choice Health Care Act would constitutionally ensure that any health care reform measure passed in Arizona will not violate a citizen's right to choose his or her own health care coverage.
The proposition has come under fire by some members of the medical community because of the potential adverse affects on public health care programs such as the Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System (AHCCCS), the state's Medicaid program.
But Kyl denies the amendment would have any affect on AHCCCS.
"Independent reviews by trusted experts at The Goldwater Institute and the Institute for Justice show these claims are without merit," Kyl said in a Yes on 101 press release.
Shadegg, the seven-term conservative representing Arizona's 3rd Congressional District, echoed Kyl's support for the amendment in the same press release and added that the proposition would protect citizens from intrusive government mandates.
"Proposition 101 is a rare and unique opportunity to protect our freedoms as Arizona residents," Shadegg stated.
