SENATE
Chuck Gray: SCM1004
— Urges the U.S. Congress to enact legislation pledging resources to reimburse Arizona for costs incurred by failure of the federal government to control illegal immigration.

Jack Harper: S1053 — A political candidate must show proof of citizenship when filing nomination papers.

Jonathan Paton: S1280 — Makes it a Class 5 Felony to knowingly harbor or conceal an illegal alien from detection; S1281 — Expands legal definition of human trafficking to include withholding, concealing or destroying a person’s passport or immigration documents, or controlling a person’s access to a controlled substance. Also expands legal definition of sex trafficking to include knowledge that a trafficked person will be forced or coerced into sexual acts; S1282 — Increases human smuggling from a class 4 to a class 3 felony if the offense includes the use or threat of deadly force.

Russell Pearce: S1158 — Requires candidates for the presidential primary to prove they are natural-born U.S. citizens and not illegal aliens; S1159 — Would make any illegal alien in Arizona guilty of misdemeanor trespassing; S1160 — Requires people to prove their legal status in the U.S. when registering a vehicle title; S1166 — Prohibits state and local governments from accepting consular ID cards from foreign nations as valid identification; S1172 — Requires Arizona Department of Education to collect data on students who are aliens and cannot prove legal status in the U.S., and to document the taxpayer cost for educating illegal aliens; S1173 — Requires applicants for public housing to prove legal status in the U.S.; S1175 — Prohibits state and local governments from enacting any law that limits the enforcement of federal immigration laws, and makes any illegal alien in Arizona guilty of trespassing; S1177 — Makes it illegal for an illegal alien to apply for work, solicit work in public or perform work as an employee or independent contractor, and prohibits employers from hiring anyone who does not present at least one for of valid identification. Also authorizes police to impound any vehicle used to transport illegal aliens; S1334 — Makes illegal aliens ineligible for workers compensation benefits; S1335 — Authorizes state attorney general and county attorneys to take all legal steps to enforce prohibitions against hiring illegal aliens, including the issuance of subpoenas. Also requires employers to notify immigration officials of failed verification under E-Verify; S1339 — States that business expenses related to employees who are illegal aliens cannot be used as deductions under state income tax code; SCR1010 — Would place a referendum on the 2010 ballot to prohibit state and local governments from enacting laws that limit the ability to enforce federal immigration law, and makes any illegal alien in Arizona guilty of trespassing.

HOUSE
Ed Ableser: HCM2002
— Urges the U.S. Congress to pass the Development, Relief and Education for Alien Minors Act (DREAM Act), which would allow illegal alien high school students who were brought into the country as minors and have been here for at least five years to apply for legal status.

Tom Boone: H2331 — Prohibits municipalities and counties from enacting laws that limit the enforcement of federal immigration laws.

Adam Driggs: H2569 — Increases human smuggling from a Class 3 to a Class 2 Felony if a deadly weapon is used in the offense.

Carl Seel: H2496 — Authorizes state attorney general and county attorneys to take all legal steps to enforce prohibitions against hiring illegal aliens, including the issuance of subpoenas. Also requires employers to notify immigration officials of failed verification under E-Verify.

Kyrsten Sinema: H2148 — Expands sex trafficking statutes to include situations where the trafficker intends to cause a person to engage in commercial sex acts, or has knowledge that a trafficked person will do so. Also, statutes on trafficking for forced labor to include situations where a trafficker withholds a passport or immigration documents, or controls a person’s access to a controlled substance; H2149 — Human smuggling, and forgery when used to secure a drop house for human smuggling, is increased from a Class 4 to a Class 3 Felony; H2151 — Establishes a Human Trafficking Coordinating Council under the Governor’s Office; H2152 — Would make people convicted of human trafficking offenses civilly liable to their victims for damages.
