Obama to give keynote speech at ASU graduation

President Barack Obama is slated to address the graduating class of Arizona State University on May 13, according to a statement released by ASU. The occasion will mark the second time the president has addressed ASU students since beginning his bid for the country's highest office more than two years ago.

The speech, which will be given during the spring commencement ceremony, is proof of Obama's dedication to education, University President Michael Crow noted in the March 20 press release.

"The progressive leadership he has already displayed and the values he espouses are a great example for our students and for the extended community that surrounds us," Crow stated.

More than 8,000 students from the university's Tempe campus will graduate later this spring. Many in the graduation class will be the first in their families to earn a college degree, university officials said.
