Gutier will go back to former job

Arizona Capitol Reports Staff//March 27, 2009//[read_meter]

Alberto Gutier will return to his role as director of the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety according to a story in the March 25 edition of the Yellow Sheet Report.
Gutier served as the director of the department from 1995 to 2003 under former Republican governors Fife Symington and Jane Hull, but soon after Democrat Janet Napolitano came into office, was replaced by Richard Fimbres.
Fimbres, as Yellow Sheet reported last week, is running for a seat on the Tucson City Council, and his agency spokesman Michael Hegarty said last week neither he nor Fimbres had any knowledge of being replaced.
Gutier opened his own consulting firm, The Gutier Group, with his daughter Miryam in 2003 and continues his work with the state GOP.
He ran for the House in 2004, but was defeated in the primary by John Allen and Steve Tully.
Prior to Gutier’s appointments by Symington and Hull, he served as former Gov. Evan Mecham’s personnel director.
Gutier will take over April 1.
This appointment has yet to be confirmed by the Governor’s Office.
