Arizona Attorney General Tom Horne will be the acting governor for most of the next week while Gov. Jan Brewer is in Florida for the Republican Party’s national convention.
Normally, the role of acting governor would fall to Secretary of State Ken Bennett, who is next in line under the Arizona Constitution.
However, Bennett is also a convention delegate along with Brewer and will be outside Arizona during her absence.
Brewer leaves Friday for Tampa while Bennett leaves Saturday. They return late next week.
Horne is a Republican but he wasn’t selected to be a delegate. He says he’s served before as acting governor but not for a week.
State Treasurer Doug Ducey is next in line after Horne to be acting governor. He’s going to Tampa as a delegate.
