A Scottsdale police official is the new director of the Arizona Department of Liquor Licenses and Control.
Gov. Doug Ducey announced Wednesday his appointment of John Cocca to lead the department that oversees the sale and consumption of liquor in the state.
Cocca has been Scottsdale’s assistant chief of police since 2001.
Ducey says Cocca’s law enforcement background makes him instrumental to the state’s mission to preserve public safety while encouraging economic growth.
The department is tasked with reviewing state liquor applications and giving more than 250 new and 600 renewal licenses each month.
