Sen. Dalessandro wins re-election in LD2

Incumbent Andrea Dalessandro, D-Green Valley, handily won re-election maintaining a strong lead in the Legislative District 2 Senate race.

Dalessandro holds a 58-percent to 42-percent lead over Republican Shelley Kais.

Although much has been said this campaign cycle about Democrats possibly gaining an even split in the Senate, the GOP targeted the LD2 Senate race as one that could go its way, even though there are nearly twice as many registered Democrats as Republicans.

Republicans gained hope of achieving success in 2014 when Rep. Chris Ackerley, R-Tucson, won a House seat in the Democratic stronghold.
