The Arizona Capitol Times reporting staff took home 10 writing awards in the 2020 Arizona Press Club contest, including two first-place winners.
Dillon Rosenblatt, who covers the governor’s office, and former House reporter Arren Kimbel-Sannit got first place in the community political reporting category for their account of how Gov. Doug Ducey’s ignoring a phone call from President Trump sparked dissension in the Arizona GOP.
Senate reporter Julia Shumway and former staff reporter Andrew Nicla won first-place for their entry in the social issues reporting, showing how lobbyists must navigate through the bad behavior of lawmakers and maintain working relationships with them.
Shumway finished second for community political reporting, community state/federal government reporting, and community sports feature.
Rosenblatt also carried home second place awards for community local reporting, community health reporting, and community breaking news.
Kimbel-Sannit got a third-place award in the community personal profile category and managing editor Gary Grado came in second for community headline writing.
