Rep. Nancy Barto, who is not termed until 2012, has opened an exploratory committee for the District 7 Senate seat currently held by Sen. Jim Waring, who is term-limited next year. Rep. Ray Barnes, who like Waring is termed in 2010, opened a Senate exploratory committee back in February.

Mesa mayor vows crackdown on massage parlors
Mesa's mayor is vowing a vigorous crackdown on massage parlors that serve as fronts for prostitution. The number of licensed massage parlors in the city has soared from 73 to about 120 since April 2006.
7 Ariz. postal stations avoid consolidation
The U.S. Postal Service's Arizona District announced Aug. 19 that no changes will be made at seven of the eight Arizona postal facilities it has been studying for possible consolidation. Still under consideration is Tucson's Midtown Station but district officials say a final decision won't be made until Oct. 1 at the earliest.
Indian gaming contributions down 9.4 percent
Tribal contributions from Indian-run casinos are down 9.4 percent from the same quarter a year ago. The Arizona Department of Gaming said that tribal contributions to the state from gaming revenue will be approximately $23.5 million.

UPDATE - Sen. Steve Pierce told the Arizona Capitol Times that his foreclosure bill will have to be fixed, either in special session or next year when the Legislature begins the regular session. Pierce and stakeholders met this afternoon (July 28) to discuss changes to the legislation.
