Goddard can draw on experience from 2 gubernatorial campaigns

No matter which Republican he faces in the 2010 general election, Attorney General Terry Goddard will have something they don't - two previous gubernatorial campaigns to learn from. Goddard's second run in 1994, when he lost the Democratic primary to grocery magnate Eddie Basha, may not provide too many lessons, since the attorney general appears to have no challengers for his party's nominatio[...]

Brewer: Arizona needs tough leader for tough times

There is no doubt that times were tough when Jan Brewer took over as governor, and tough times call for a tough leader. That leader, Brewer said as she announced her candidacy for 2010, is her. Speaking to dozens of supporters at the Renaissance Glendale Hotel and Spa on Nov. 5, Brewer formally announced what most observers had expected for months - that she will seek a full term as governor.

The Pulse: Put some jelly on that toast

We've all heard it: Jan Brewer is toast. She can't get along with Republican lawmakers. She hasn't solved the budget deficit. She's despised by her own party - and by Democrats, too, her critics charge.

Pollsters say Brewer isn’t toast

Gov. Jan Brewer's poll numbers are among the lowest of any governor in the country. But the wild card, pollsters here say, is that many Arizona voters don't know enough about the governor to have an opinion. "The hardcore anti-Jan Brewer constituency is relatively small, especially among the voting population," said NAU pollster and political science professor Fred Solop...

Groomed Governors

John Munger's biggest hurdle in seeking the governor's office may actually have nothing to do with the fact he's from Tucson. The mustache-sporting attorney is up against history in another way, too. See, only two of the 22 people who have served as Arizona governor since statehood have had facial hair like Munger does. And the last case was 32 years ago: Raul Castro, also the only Tucsonan to [...]
