Candidates for CD1 turn negative in first debate
Republican congressional candidate Jonathan Paton pointed to his military service and years served in the Legislature and his Democratic opponent Ann Kirkpatrick painted herself as a bi-partisan bridge builder. But eventually their Thursday night debate in Casa Grande for Arizona’s 1st Congressional District turned to the negative images each has been proffering about the other.
Three’s a crowd, but what’s four?
If Martin withdraws, he will join the three other people who so far have withdrawn their candidacies after opponents began preparing to challenge their nominating petitions. LD25 House candidate Chris Montijo became the first to withdraw (YS, 6/6), and he has since been followed by Dem US Senate candidate David Ruben and LD24 GOP Senate candidate Scott Fistler.
Konopnicki tests the waters in D.C.
Konopnicki went to D.C. last week to meet with the NRCC and a few political consultants to get feedback on his prospective candidacy in CD1, and he’s been touring the district to meet with potential constituents.
Paton to run in vast CD1, won’t seek Giffords’ seat
Former state legislator Jonathan Paton is making another run for a congressional seat, but he won’t be seeking to replace U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, who resigned her seat today a year after she was shot in the head in an assassination attempt.
Konopnicki feeling the temptation
