Education funding battle heats up

Lawmakers and representatives from the education community clashed over funding for Arizona's public education during a forum Oct. 20 at a downtown restaurant. Rep. Rich Crandall, a Mesa Republican, said he was taking the position as a "realist" and warned that cuts to education are inevitable next year given the size of the state's budget deficit.

Budget overrides at Glendale, Washington school districts

"Support Our Kids" and "Citizens for a Quality Education" have joined forces to educate voters about two very critical upcoming ballot measures. On Nov. 3, Washington Elementary School District (WESD) and Glendale Union High School District (GUHSD) residents will determine if their respective budget overrides will be continued.

Lawmakers tackle education budget first

A veto last week of public school funding has left Arizona unable to receive a billion dollars in federal stimulus aid for education, but lawmakers are hoping to pass legislation today (July 6) to restore the funding and qualify for the federal money.
