Gorman resigns as whip
Sen. Pamela Gorman has resigned her position as majority whip. "I believe our ideological and philosophical differences on important issues like taxes and spending make it necessary for me to resign my position," Gorman wrote in a letter to Senate President Bob Burns that was first obtained by the Yellow Sheet Report.
Senate meets today, budget vote iffy
The Senate will meet today (Aug. 4), but it’s unclear how many senators will show up. Gov. Jan Brewer has been working the phones in the past few days to lobby lawmakers for their vote on an agreement that she and Republican legislative leaders reached last month.

Burns strips Verschoor of leadership role, removes 2 from Rules panel
The president of the Arizona Senate has removed Thayer Verschoor from his leadership position, replacing him with a freshman lawmaker. Sen. Steve Pierce, a lawmaker from Prescott, was appointed July 8 to replace Verschoor as Senate President pro tempore, as well as on the six-member Senate Rules Committee.
