Court: Prop 204 clerical error didn’t confuse voters

The clerical error that led to two different versions of a ballot measure was an honest mistake that did not confuse voters, and thus didn’t warrant Secretary of State Ken Bennett’s decision to bar measure from going to voters, the Supreme Court said in an opinion published today.

Sales-tax supporters cheer court ruling

Supporters of the Quality Education and Jobs Initiative celebrated on the steps of the Maricopa County Superior Courthouse today, moments after Judge Robert Oberbillig overturned the Secretary of States’ decision that more than 290,000 of the group’s petition signatures were invalid due to a paperwork error.

1-cent sales tax backers go to court to put measure on ballot

Rebuffed by the Secretary of State, the group that is spearheading the initiative to raise sales taxes by one cent went to court today in the hopes of compelling election officials to put the measure on the November ballot. State elections officials reject sales tax initiative signatures

The Secretary of State today rejected the signatures of more than 290,000 voters who signed petitions to let the public decide in November whether the state’s sales tax should be increased by one cent to pay for education and construction projects.
