Ducey: Planned Uber sting left director Über-fired

During his speech to the RNC’s spring meeting at The Phoenician today, Ducey dropped a previously undisclosed bombshell: that he fired the interim Weights and Measures director Shawn Marquez because he was planning a pre-Super Bowl sting on Uber and Lyft with the aim of shutting the ride-sharing companies down.

Ducey says he fired agency head over sting; director denies it

Gov. Doug Ducey said he fired the head of the Department of Weights and Measures because he planned a pre-Super Bowl sting against Uber and Lyft with the intention of shutting down the popular ride-sharing companies, the first time the governor has publicly discussed the reasons he did not retain the interim director.

Despite last session’s failed bill, ridesharing keeps rolling along in Arizona

When Gov. Jan Brewer vetoed a bill earlier this year that would have authorized rideshare services such as Uber and Lyft to operate in the state and regulated them differently than taxis, Uber declared that “ridesharing as we know it is dead in Arizona.”
