Governor Napolitano’s campaign for re-election is certain it will face Republican Len Munsil in the general election, and that it why the Democratic Party filed a complaint this week about Mr. Munsil’s campaign Web site, an aide said.
“We are gearing up for more increased scrutiny,” said Munsil spokesman Vernon B. Parker.
Michael Frias, the Democrats’ director of campaigns, said Mr. Munsil’s Web site failed to identify its funding source, a violation of law that requires campaign materials that advocate for or against a candidate to reveal its source of funding.
The omission was corrected within minutes of the announcement of the complaint, which was filed with the Secretary of State’s Office, Mr. Parker said.
“This was a minor mistake that we cleaned up immediately,” he said. “Was there any unfair advantage to leaving that off? No. You have to be a complete moron not to know this is the Len Munsil for Governor campaign Web site.”
Deputy Secretary of State Kevin Tyne said if the office finds that a law was violated, the complaint would be forwarded to the Attorney General’s Office.
Both Ms. Napolitano and Mr. Munsil have received initial payments of nearly $454,000 in public funding. They are the only two gubernatorial candidates to have qualified for the ballot.
