Arizona Capitol Reports Staff//June 23, 2006//[read_meter]
Bill Coates joins the Arizona Capitol Times staff following a stint of freelance writing — for the Capitol Times and other publications.
During that time, Mr. Coates often took photographs to go with his stories. He got a lot of practical experience behind the lens. He now hopes to use that experience in taking pictures as well as writing for the Capitol Times.
For Mr. Coates, this is somewhat back to the future. He worked for the Capitol Times as a reporter from 1996 to 2001, covering Clean Elections, the courts and the attorney general.
Until recently, he also volunteered as a reader for the Arizona State Braille and Talking Book Library. He has written two humor mystery novels. They have proven highly valuable as recycled paper, he says.
Mr. Coates is married to Cindy, a staff attorney with the Arizona Court of Appeals. They have one daughter, Sarah, a senior at North High School in Phoenix.
