Napolitano: Immigration hearings are ‘political’

Arizona Capitol Reports Staff//August 4, 2006//[read_meter]

The day before her Aug. 3 trip to the Mexican border with Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius, Governor Napolitano continued her criticism of Congress for failure to pass a comprehensive immigration bill.
Meanwhile, Congressional hearings on illegal immigration continue around the country, including one Aug. 2 in Yuma by the House Armed Services Committee.
“I think these hearings are a delay tactic,” Ms. Napolitano told reporters at her weekly news briefing. “I don’t think they’re helping to resolve the issue. Congress needs to get in a room and negotiate a bill… These hearings to me are simply political events. If you [Congress] haven’t heard from America now about a broken system, you’re just not listening.”
The Democrat governor, who is seeking re-election, traveled to San Luis to visit the 50 members of the Kansas National Guard.
At her weekly press briefing Aug. 2, Ms. Napoltiano was asked why her campaign signs do not identify her as a Democrat≠ They also don’t have her last name.
“I think they know my last name and I think they know I’m a Democrat,” she said.
