The Arizona Capitol Times editorial, production and public notice departments have earned several awards in recent weeks.
The weekly newspaper that covers government, politics and law earned a first place for its special section “State of the State.” Contest judges called the special section an “excellent resource for readers interested in all things political. Overall excellent product.” The annual “State of the State” issue previews January’s legislative session and includes interviews with leaders, political predictions and prefiled bill summaries.
The staff also earned a second place for a section that covered education policy and a third place for reporting & news writing excellence.
Senate reporter Phil Riske earned an honorable mention for a story on the Arizona Medical Board. Managing editor Karen Fullenwider garnered a third for headline writing.
The newspaper competed in the non-daily category for newspapers with a circulation between 3,500 and 10,000.
The staff recently earned two awards from the National Newspaper Association, a third place award for its “Political Almanac” and a second place for its public notice section.
The Arizona Capitol Times is published by Arizona News Service LLC and is based in downtown Phoenix. It is owned by Dolan Media Company, based in Minneapolis.
