Senate
District 23 (Pinal County): Democratic Sen. Rebecca Rios turned away a challenge from Republican Cheryl Chase, a Republican and former Democrat.
District 24 (Yuma County): In a race for another seat targeted by Republicans, Democratic Rep. Amanda Aguirre defeated Republican Rep. Russ Jones for a seat now held by a Democrat who did not seek re-election.
District 26 (northern Tucson area): Democrat Charlene Pesquierra beat Republican Al Melvin for a seat put into serious play when the moderate Republican incumbent was defeated in the Sept. 12 primary.
House
District 10 (Phoenix/Glendale): A Democrat captured one of two House seats held by Republicans. House Speaker Jim Weiers was re-elected but Democrat Jackie Thrasher beat Republican Rep. Doug Quelland.
District 11 (Phoenix/Paradise Valley): A Democrat, Mark Anthony Desimone, won one of two open House seats now held by Republicans.
District 17 (Tempe): Republican Rep. Laura Knaperek of Tempe lost her re-election bid as Democrats Al Ableser and David Schapira won both seats in what had been a split delegation.
District 23 (Pinal County): Democratic Rep. Pete Rios was re-elected and Democrat Barbara McGuire won the district’s second seat, now held by Ms. Chase.
District 24 (Yuma County): Democrats Lynne Pancrazi and Theresa Ulmer won the two House seats left up for grabs when Ms. Aguirre and Mr. Jones ran for Senate.
District 26 (northern Tucson area): Republican Pete Hershberger was re-elected but Democrat Lena Saradnik won the second seat held by a Republican (Steve Huffman) who did not seek re-election.
