Martin sounds off on allegations

The Dean Martin campaign finally responded today to claims that he bragged about hiding treasury deposits from former Gov. Janet Napolitano, calling fellow gubernatorial candidate Steve Slaton’s allegations “fabricated and false.”

The campaign said Martin’s comments at a Lincoln Day dinner in Globe on Saturday were regarding his battles with Napolitano over putting money into the state’s Rainy Day Fund, and referred to his days in the Senate, not the Treasurer’s Office. “This is the most baseless and distasteful kind of political attack, to take the truth and spin it backwards,” read a campaign press statement. “Mr. Slaton should apologize for his error and have the blog post removed if he expects the public to trust anything he has to say in the future.”
