Dozens of Democrats in Congress oppose AZ law

About 60 Democratic members of Congress have filed a friend-of-the-court brief with the U.S. Supreme Court expressing their opposition to Arizona’s 2010 immigration enforcement law.

Arizona Reps. Raul Grijalva, Ed Pastor and dozens of their Democratic colleagues urged the nation’s highest court to uphold earlier court rulings that bar the state from enforcing the law’s most controversial sections.

Gov. Jan Brewer has asked the Supreme Court to overturn a lower-court ruling that, among other things, barred a requirement that police a�� while enforcing other laws a�� question the immigration status of those they suspect of being in the country illegally.

The Democratic members of congress argue that federal immigration law trumps state law.
