Maricopa attorney: Trump should end marijuana ‘charade’

Maricopa County Attorney Bill Montgomery says he expects President-elect Donald Trump’s administration to put an end to “the charade” of marijuana legalization laws.

The Arizona Republic reports (http://bit.ly/2gZGpRI) that Montgomery says he wants Trump’s administration to work with the U.S. Department of Justice and Congress to put medical marijuana under the U.S. Food and Drug Administration approval process. The attorney says there should be a crackdown on people abusing the medical marijuana system for recreation use and on states that have approved marijuana as a recreational drug.

Montgomery says states have created a “patchwork system of regulations and programs” that are in conflict with federal law, and not quashing them will undermine the legitimacy of federalism.
