Spokesman for 4 Phoenix mayors retiring
A spokesman for four different Phoenix mayors is retiring on Dec. 31 after 19 years on the job. Scott Phelps says he volunteered to leave the office of Mayor Phil Gordon in anticipation of further budget cuts in Phoenix, where more than 1,000 positions have been eliminated in the past year.
Weiers looks to restore historic dome’s shine
The Arizona Capitol's famed copper dome, much like its finances, has lost its luster. What was once a shiny beacon of the state's prosperity and a nod to the historical importance the ore played in its development has become dull and faded. Although chemically treated to prevent tarnishing, the copper is visibly discolored over much of the dome's surface.

Sky Harbor to conduct random baggage checks
Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport began a new policy Nov. 10 of conducting random baggage checks following the arrest of a couple accused of stealing nearly 1,000 bags of luggage. Sky Harbor Airport spokeswoman Alisa Smith said staff of the various airlines will be checking that luggage identification matches passengers' ID or claim checks.

Cavazos named Phoenixa��s new city manager
David Cavazos was named Oct. 26 as Phoenix's new city manager and will start the job on Nov. 6. The 49-year-old Cavazos was one of four finalists for the position and had been a deputy city manager. He will replace Frank Fairbanks, who is retiring Nov. 5 at age 63 after a 37-year career including 19 as city manager.
Lake Havasu City owes fired city manager $200,000
LAKE HAVASU CITY - Lake Havasu City owes fired City Manager Richard Kaffenberger more than $200,000 in retirement, vacation, "termination" and other pay. City Human Resources representative Shirlee Palbicki says the amount will be paid immediately.
