Vouchers help Native American students climb ‘the ladder’

I am not saying that every family should use an ESA or that every child should be in a private school. What I am saying is that having no choice but to be in a public-school setting is no choice at all.

Chandler engineer fights rigged Arizona system

Greg Mills’ ability to earn an honest living should not depend on whether he receives a W-2 or 1099 tax form. Rules based on such arbitrary distinctions cannot stand. If he is qualified to work for a manufacturer, he is qualified to work for himself.

First responders will be harmed if ambulance bill passes

HB2823 is a bad idea that purports to fix a system that is not broken. Your firefighters hope you will join us in opposing this bill.

It should never be too late to earn high school diploma

Thousands of Arizonans need a second chance to complete a high school education. For their sake and our own, it’s time we gave it to them.

Stronger renewable energy standard good for state’s economy

Thanks to this report, the benefits of REST are clear — and there are even more for Arizona to take advantage of by strengthening the policy. The numbers speak for themselves. I hope the commission takes note of this and feels confident that a stronger REST is the right move for Arizonans.

America rises to every challenge, will tackle coronavirus

Today, the United States is much better prepared to deal with the current crisis because of the Bush administration’s decisive steps taken in 2006. It is apparent that the current administration is dedicated to protecting Americans and building on the foundations laid 14 years ago. America rises to every challenge and while we cannot diminish the virility of this disease, we can know that we hav[...]

Bills would insert politicians into private, medical decisions

When it comes to abortion or pregnancy loss, politicians in Washington, DC and Phoenix cannot know what every woman and her family is going through. They are going to hurt real people in complicated situations, people who are trying to make the best decisions for their families, often when faced with heartbreaking news. We need elected officials to stand with the majority of Arizonans who support [...]

School district’s needs too great, turns to local voters for financing

These funds would allow the district to not only maintain and expand successful programs, but to expand vital initiatives such as increased access to high quality preschool, tutors, nurses and other specialists to support struggling students. Arizona students have dreams for the future and can’t wait and of course, they deserve no less!

Government bodies should drop the prayers and get to work

The sheer controversy that surrounds public prayer and the petty theatrics it seems to attract testify to the fact that Arizona can do better. Arizona’s humanists and atheists will show up and speak up for equal representation as long as our government opens official meetings with prayer, but we could all get along a lot better if we cut out the prayer and got down to business instead.

Severely understaffed Corporation Commission needs Legislature’s help

The Arizona Corporation Commission is severely understaffed and is in serious need of assistance from the Legislature and Governor’s office to increase the ACC’s assessments (within currently approved statutory levels) to support manpower increases needed to match the ACC’s significantly increasing work load.

Criminal justice data transparency makes communities safer

In Arizona, without accurate and complete data, our criminal justice system is losing public trust, which prevents us from keeping people safe. SB 1171 would make our prosecutors’ offices more effective and improve public collaboration with our criminal justice system. SB 1171 has found support across the political spectrum because it would give lawmakers, prosecutors, and the public the informa[...]

Once coronavirus reaches Arizona, let’s look before we leap

Given what we now know about how easily the new coronavirus spreads and the fact that it’s spreading in several countries, including South Korea and Iran, it’s only a matter of time before it starts circulating in Arizona.
