Tomorrow, everyone at the Capitol will finally lay eyes on the policy that many have already taken sides on: Brewer’s proposed AHCCCS expansion. The governor will unveil the draft language of her plan at a press conference tomorrow afternoon on the House lawn.

One source close to Brewer told our reporter that the core sentiment of Brewer’s letter this week to PCs was emblematic of the way she approaches public service – and though it was sent to the PCs, its message is aimed in many ways at GOP legislators.

Daniel Patterson piped up on Twitter today, saying that if Saldate is appointed to the federal Dept of the Interior and resigns from the House, he wants to return to the Legislature. Patterson told our reporter he plans to run for the appointment if the seat opens up in LD3.

AJ LaFaro and his team won all seats up for grabs on Saturdays’ Maricopa County GOP election. The election wasn’t close, but it also wasn’t a complete blowout. In a way, the team’s election reflects a continuity of the leadership – and politics – of outgoing Maricopa GOP chairman Rob Haney.

Brewer didn’t offer a lot of specifics, but she was clear-eyed about two policy items she will pursue this session: money for K-12 education and simplifying the state’s sales tax system. Brewer was the main speaker at today’s annual legislative forecast luncheon organized by the Arizona Chamber of Commerce.
Only 2 years until election day
The Republic released the results of the poll conducted over the weekend on the 2014 AG’s race that was mentioned in yesterday’s report, and the early numbers look good for Goddard. The poll of 601 voters, conducted by Public Policy Polling from Jan. 4-6, shows Goddard beating Horne 50-38 with 12 percent undecided.

Mitchell case – the political route
If Jones’ attorney is rebuffed by the courts over the challenge to Mitchell’s residency, the firebrand lawyer plans to shift gears and take the political route. Tom Ryan said he’ll take his case to the House Credentialing Committee, a panel invested with the authority to vet incoming lawmakers’ qualifications and recommend whether they should be seated.
