U.S. Rep. Kyrsten Sinema retained her seat in Arizona’s 9th Congressional District.

She defeated Republican Wendy Rogers and Libertarian Powell Gamill has 3 percent.

Sinema first won the seat in 2012, defeating former Paradise Valley Mayor Vernon Parker.

Arizona’s 9th Congressional District, which includes parts of Mesa, Phoenix, Scottsdale and Tempe, is one of three competitive districts in the state, with nearly even numbers of Democrats, Republicans and independent voters. It is Arizona’s newest district, created during the 2011 redistricting.

Sinema has long been favored in the district, because of her superior fundraising and controlled campaign messaging.

According to federal campaign finance reports, Sinema outraised and outspent Rogers by about three-to-one, raising and spending more than $3 million, while Rogers raised and spent only about $1 million.
