The State Board of Education is meeting Wednesday to discuss reporting errors in the teacher discipline system.

Board President Greg Miller said he doesn’t think there are any shocking errors, but there are cases in which the processing wasn’t done or wasn’t done correctly.

“It’s not clean, but it needs to be clean. It’s unfortunate, but that’s what it is,” Miller said.

Miller said he’s been briefed and told that the Department of Education conducted a review going back several years of teacher discipline cases and investigations in which the board took action.

Charles Tack, a spokesman for the Arizona Department of Education, was not immediately available for comment.

The board is charged with investigating the backgrounds of teachers seeking certification and recommend discipline for teachers accused of misconduct.

The investigations unit has been dealing with a backlog of cases for several years.
