Rep. Kwasman’s opposition to AHCCCS expansion filled with ‘misinformation’

Based on the Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System’s (AHCCCS) blueprint, Florida Gov. Rick Scott is rebuilding his state’s Medicaid program. He is the 21st governor to develop a broader Medicaid program. Finally, Florida can do what we in Arizona pioneered: Establish a private-public partnership where private health plans, not the government, coordinate health care for their patients. It[...]

Medicaid expansion would be a ‘nightmare’ for Arizona

The proposed Obamacare Medicaid expansion is bad for taxpayers, bad for freedom and ultimately bad for Arizona’s health. The Supreme Court ruled that forcing the expansion of Medicaid is unconstitutional. In response, President Barack Obama has dangled the shiny object of federal funding in front of us. We shouldn’t be fooled into taking a bad deal.

Obama’s foreign policy reflected in Nobel Prize speech

It was three years ago last month that President Obama received the Nobel Peace Prize. His acceptance speech conveyed his moral vision of international affairs and provided a guide for the foreign policy successes of his first term. But the challenges confronting him in a second term show where refined direction is needed.

Newtown and other tragedies emphasize need for behavioral health care through expanded AHCCCS coverage

A common thread runs through the Newtown, Portland, Aurora and Tucson tragedies: One young man's troubled existence shatters the lives of multiple innocent bystanders. A vigorous debate over gun control is understandable, but it's not enough to talk about these tragedies without talking about individual health.

Dying man an example of why state should expand AHCCCS coverage

Dave was a homeless guy. Some blamed him for the bad choices he must have made. Some were a bit more sympathetic. A few got close enough to him to realize how little it would take to get Dave to a much better position in life — off the street, working, and even serving as a superb role model for others similarly in desperate need of a few small breaks.

Article didn’t accurately describe university funding request

The nature of the universities’ funding requests was not accurately described in the Nov. 30 Arizona Capitol Times article “Universities, agencies seek major spending hikes.” While the article accurately reports the total of the system’s fiscal year 2014 request, it is misleading to suggest that the universities are requesting a 29 percent budget increase.

Forget rhetoric and partisanship, House Dems to offer economic solutions

Election results both in Arizona and nationwide showed that voters are sick and tired of extremist, partisan politics. They want common sense leaders who are focused on addressing the real issues they and their families face. Arizona House Democrats are committed to moving our economy forward and protecting the middle class — because that is what Arizonans told us they want.
