Planned Parenthood of Arizona is disputing state health investigators' allegations that several record-keeping and patient-care shortcomings were found during a February search of its Glendale abortion clinic.

Court rulings striking down an Arizona law that prohibits public funds for Planned Parenthood will stand after the U.S. Supreme Court refused today to accept the state’s appeal.

The House Appropriations Committee on Monday approved a pro-life measure that would allow unannounced inspections of abortion clinics and prohibit them from providing abortions to Medicaid patients.

A proposed law that is scheduled for a legislative committee on Monday would forbid women from getting abortions at clinics where they get their Medicaid-funded family planning services even if they pay to end their pregnancies themselves.

Gov. Jan Brewer forcefully declared that her proposal to expand the Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System to hundreds of thousands of new patients is a pro-life plan. As a pro-life governor, she said, she will not sit idly by while people suffer. Since then, opponents of her plan have taken up the pro-life mantle in the Legislature.
