The House of Representatives once again has 60 members, as a new lawmaker was sworn in this morning to replace one who resigned in July to run for Congress.

Tom Chabin, who was appointed to replace Ann Kirkpatrick, was sworn into office this morning on the House floor. Chabin, a former Coconino County Supervisor, was named to the post last month.

In a brief speech after the swearing-in ceremony, Chabin said he was “pleased to take on the challenge of replacing” Kirkpatrick in the House. “I really look forward to the opportunity and the challenge,” he said.

Kirkpatrick announced in July she intended to challenge U.S. Rep. Rick Renzi in District 1 and resigned her legislative seat. Renzi, a three-term representative, is under investigation for sponsoring legislation that would have benefited his former business partner and has since announced he will not seek reelection.
