Phoenix state Senator Jim Waring has postponed his announcement to run for Congress, following reports that an effort is afoot to convince U.S. Rep. John Shadegg to rethink his decision to retire at the end of his current term. “I have the utmost respect for him,” Waring said. “Obviously I would not run against Congressman Shadegg.” Waring said he appreciates the encouragement he has received from people urging him to run following Shadegg’s earlier announcement that he is not seeking reelection in November. “Nobody wants to see him go — least of all me,” Waring said. Some 135 U.S. House Republicans have signed a letter urging Shadegg to stay in his seat, reports said.
