Boston to boycott Arizona

The Boston City Council has approved a resolution calling for the city to pull investments from Arizona in protest over the state’s recently passed immigration law.

Councilors approved the measure Wednesday by a voice vote.

The resolution urges city officials to end any city contracts and purchasing agreements with Arizona. The resolution also asks city employees not to travel to Arizona for city business.

Before the vote, councilors said they received a slew of angry calls over the resolution after area talk radio shows urged listeners to call and email them.

Councilor Ayanna Pressley said what happens across the country reverberates in Boston and the city council needed to take a stand.

Washington, D.C., New York and Los Angeles are considering similar measures.

  1. Hold your ground Arizona. Millions in MA support you despite what the left media will report. Boston City Council are a bunch of commi, pinko you know whats. They are getting hammered by the public over wasting time passing a vote on removing investments in Arizona. All while the city is broke and falling apart.

  2. hey Boston we will send all our mexican your way and let you deal with them since you love them so much. See how you like it

  4. Any level of government agency or private organization should think twice before calling for a pre-emptive and vigilante punitive action regarding Arizonan goods and services. Then not do it.

Such may face civil suits for attempting to violate free speech — and in the case of government agencies, additionally over negligence by the people they represent. Such may also end up losing federal and state monies, and legal-defense aid from State Attorneys General and the US Justice Department over such impropriety.

Arizona’s AG office wouldn’t have exclusive dibbs on filing the suits, nor could they do anything to stop them.

Once the intended punitive injury materializes and the causal link establishes, the intended victims are two-thirds the way to legal standing. So go ahead punks, make Arizona’s day. Keep leaving that nice and tidy paper and electronic trail, idiot resolution by idiot resolution. And keep detailed records and statistics concerning how many dollars in goods and services you injure Arizonans by. By all means, inflate that dollar amount as seems fitting to prove the extent of your bravado. All that would make punitive award decision making easier. For every in-state dollar Arizonans are injured, they could get back three from out of state — minus the one for the attorneys. Not a bad deal — a twofer — in any economic times.

If Arizonans end up using parts of settlement funds for a public park or trail, a substantial bronze plaque thanking the people of Boston, among others, would be appropriate. A frequently-updated webpage listing all out-of-state contributors would be fitting as well.

There’s no better comedy than watching someone shoot their own foot, thinking it’s someone else’s. Except for the case of then watching that someone having to make that someone else whole for the throbbing pain in their own foot. Well okay, except for the case of then watching that pre-emptive vigilante someone yelping to President Obama, “Barack, a little help here please!” And hearing back, “Thank you very much for serving my political interests like that, notice how I didn’t stand in your way of doing so. But now — youze on your own.”

  5. Immature boycotts and oppositions are like arrows hitting an armored vehicle, wont do much harm, the law SB1070 is approved at 70 percent by AMERICA, the sleeping giant, tons of proud non-illegal Americans prepare a summer vacation or other business with AZ. Also when illegals are gone, no more draining the state billions, eventually AZ will become a real nice clean and rich state while Mexifornia and other no-gutts states will decay more. Eventually boycotters themselves may want to secretely come to AZ, how embarassing… GO AZ, go SB1070!

  6. I’m from the Boston area, and I am totally embarassed by the Boston City Council’s boycott of Arizona. This is the same group of non-entites that voted to keep state funding for illegal imigrants, yet the state is in a fiscal tail spin. They are nothing but “vote whores”. Stand your ground Arizona!!

  7. I think ANYONE who does not have a problem with illegal immigrants should go experience a city with them! The Cincinnati are is not even near the border but I have seen them rushing in and taking EVERY available job! They do NOT just do the jobs that Americans “don’t want to do”! From the housing industry ( just TRY to get a house built, roofed, sided or anything and insist “NO Immigrants”) — to restaurants. They have taken all of our school-aged teenagers’ “after school” jobs! I LOVE Red Robin but will NO longer patronize them because not only are ALL of their cooks Hispanics but they are even starting to hire them as waitresses/waiters/greeters?! This is just RIDICULOUS! WHY is our American “powers that be” siding against Americans and WITH ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS?!?! I truly HATE Obama but I would help vote him back into office IF he’d read and enact “Operation Wetback IV” and rid our country of these very expensive illegals!

  8. I agree with JR. The Boston city council sure did step in it…

Every anti-illegal immigrant organization in the United States and the majority of the pro-sovereignty population will fight Amnesty. Washington and pro-amnesty politicians over several decades of both parties, have brought this illegal alien invasion mess upon themselves and its people? They even went as far as cutting budgets instead of building the–REAL–double fence? Many Americans may shun away from being called a racist. American and legal residents don’t demonstrate because they are liable to be attacked by illegal alien extremists. As Politically correct” laws have become a major encumbrance to our safety. The same with using ” Racial profiling” by the open border zealots, that is compromising any safety net we have in any state, the border or airport terminals

Arizona–as a border state has a crippled economy from financial supporting illegal immigrant welfare, plus its cities police are unable to handle the criminal incursions from across the border. This soft Obama administration is going to cause a massive calamity through its Liberal ideology? Somewhere on our soil is a cell of people who hate our guts, whether foreign terrorists or home-grown terrorists and they will succeed in killing innocent citizens-legal residents. It is already known that Cartels in Mexico are assisting these criminals from the Middle East. Somewhere soon homeland Security intelligence will fail to pick up criminal activities and death like 9/11 will happen in this nation. We spend hundreds of billions of dollars on foreign countries, but our lawmakers argue over appropriating several billion dollars, on building the real double fence or stationing the National Guard permanently on the border as Mexico does with Guatemala? How about bringing our troops home from other countries and demand they invest in their own military to protect their own people?

  10. how poor and ridiculous are the basis of which most of you people speak off, You critized inmigrants for taking jobs from americans, when the majority of welfare receivers are WHITE!, Most of these inmigrants dont even qualify for any benefits, they dont receive a tax refund or EICT. Those who speak out how undocumented inmigrants are taking their jobs, should protest to the Federal government that every year gives a way 50,000 work visas to people from all around the world. How hipocritical can this be. Rise your hand, how many of you want to wash dishes, pick up potatoes, or clean dirty toilets for a living. Not many of you. Just remember people what goes around comes around, once this land belong to the brown people (native americans), and it will be a point where you wish you had extended your arm to help, be humane, and treat others with respect. Hispanics are a reality and will be the largest group by 2030. Hispanics are a reality, one more thing Whites will be the largest minority…….

  11. Why don’t people just buy something online from Arizona this week end. That will make a statement.

  12. I’m from the Boston area and the Boston council does NOT represent the people of Mass!!
If you go to the Social Secuirity Office in LAWRENCE, Everything is written in Spanish. Ther must be over a million ILLEGALS here.
The whole State is overun with Hispanics, they can’t all be Legal!
Governor Brewer! WE ARE WITH YOU!!
