Political consultant Chad Heywood, who is running Begay’s campaign, acknowledged that the CD1 candidate faces challenges as he entered the race late. But Heywood said Begay has a unique story to tell, and is hoping that, given the party’s failures to wrest the seat away from Democrats in the past, enough GOP voters will be inclined this time to consider somebody who could mount a stronger general election campaign and put the district in the Republican corner.
