Use-of-force data will improve policing
The best way to reassure those people that the police officers in their communities are upstanding is to show them irrefutable, concrete data on use-of-force. State legislators have a chance this session to get that data to the public and, more importantly, to stop the bloodshed.
Free speech, religious freedom for all
The diversity of groups standing with the Alliance Defending Freedom in our current Supreme Court cases shows the way forward. Despite our differences, we must work together to protect each other’s freedoms. That’s the surest path to realizing our Constitution’s promise of free speech and religious freedom for all.
Safely opening schools can be done
Ducey’s executive order means in-person learning is coming sooner than later for all schools. The school bell is about to ring statewide. We believe our schools, educators, and students can meet the challenge when they are armed with the correct resources as our experience working together in Avondale proves.
Congress has opportunity to protect Grand Canyon region
Congress has the opportunity to permanently protect the Grand Canyon region and those whose livelihoods, health, and cultures depend upon it, rather than allow it to be jeopardized for toxic uranium mines to benefit the short-term profits of a few and potentially expose us to pollution forever. The Senate should join the House in passing the Grand Canyon Protection Act.
Pandemic can’t stop kids from reading better, being better
What began last March as the shutting of thousands of doors at schools across the state ended up being the beginning of new doors opening for Read Better Be Better and its partner schools because of their collaborative efforts.
Now in Arizona: Hope Delivered Every 10 Seconds
A true testament to the grit and resilience of our community, Arizona has managed to move from a time of hopelessness and uncertainty to becoming a role model of strength and unity. While we need to stay vigilant and still have a long road ahead, standing shoulder to shoulder against an enemy we cannot even see will lead us to victory. This is genuine, authentic love in action, and it changes us a[...]
Time to modernize AZ’s school finance formula
Like the Oldsmobile Cutlass, however, Arizona’s school finance system has grown increasingly antiquated. Today, simply by enrolling in different public schools the same Arizona student can generate wildly different K-12 funding amounts. The same student could change public schools in Arizona but receive only a fraction of public funding his or her previous school received. Forty years after the [...]
We are working together for unemployed Arizonans
This isn’t about a handout. Unemployment insurance is one of the most effective policies for stabilizing our economy during recessions by providing money to people and families who need it most, while maintaining consumer demand.
Independent voters will be harmed by election reform proposal
To put it more directly, should this bill pass without dropping the requirement to vote in partisan primary elections, independent Arizona voters will be well within their rights to sue to block that blatantly unconstitutional feature.
Cities simply need to enforce good neighborhood policy
Paradise Valley Mayor Bien-Willner is wrong. Cities have all the authority they need to enforce good neighborhood policy.
Let’s forge sensible short-term rental solutions
A recent poll commissioned by Airbnb found 89% of Arizona voters support the state’s tourism industry and the economic benefits it generates. The positive sentiment extends to short-term rentals: six in 10 voters support allowing Arizonans to share their homes to supplement their income and spread tourism benefits to communities across the state. In the past year, as many Arizonans faced economi[...]
Time to crack down on short-term rentals abuses
In “The Conscience of a Conservative,” Senator Barry Goldwater wrote: “Local problems are best dealt with by the people most directly concerned.” I couldn’t agree more. At a fundamental level, every Arizona citizen deserves to be able to live in their home, free from nightly chaos, disruptions and crime. We encourage the Legislature to pass HB2481 and urge Gov. Doug Ducey to sign it into[...]
