Sen. Sylvia Allen, a Republican from Snowflake, is leaving the Legislature to run for a seat on the Navajo County board of supervisors.

Allen said she decided against seeking another term in the Legislature largely to be closer to her family.

Allen also said she’s endorsing Rep. Chester Crandell, R-Heber, to replace her in the Legislative District 6 Senate seat.

Allen was appointed to the Legislature replace Jake Flake, who died while serving as senator in 2008.

She was reelected to her seat twice.

“I am grateful for the service that Senator Allen has given our state and for the example she has shown,” Crandell said in a news release. “She has been a mentor to me and I am honored to have her endorsement.”
