Kanefield: This lawsuit is legitimate…and cheap

Gov. Jan Brewer's chief counsel, Joe Kanefield, seems to be somewhat of an unusual choice to lead the state's charge against the federal health care legislation. Kanefield, a registered Democrat, told YS that the criticism of the lawsuit coming from detractors, including Terry Goddard, appears to be baseless political sniping.

Goddard: Lawsuit against feds is a loser

Terry Goddard said he won't join a lawsuit filed by 13 other state AGs over Obama's health care bill. Gov. Jan Brewer had repeatedly called on Goddard to join the suit over the health care legislation, which she said will add $400 million to the state budget.

The heat is on Ann Kirkpatrick, as a Prescott newspaper labeled her as a Pelosi-puppet while Rep. Andy Tobin and Sen. Steve Pierce told her the district won't be fooled by a congressional "deem and pass" maneuver on national health care reform.

Fed RICO case against board, judges dropped

Andrew Thomas and Joe Arpaio dropped their federal racketing case against the Board of Supervisors this morning (March 11). In a very brief filing with the U.S. District Court, they said they dismissed the case without prejudice because the Department of Justice's Public Integrity Section agreed to review the charges against the board and other county officials and judges.

Waring fires first… at Gordon

In the middle of a crowded Republican primary, Jim Waring's campaign went on the offensive against Democratic Phoenix Mayor Phil Gordon. Waring, in an emailed request for contributions, noted he led the GOP field by a mile in a recent poll, but omitted his campaign conducted the survey and that ‘undecideds' were not included in the results.
