Congressional delegation must oppose credit card act

I’m deeply concerned to see the recent news out of Washington, D.C., that senators will try to tie a harmful credit card proposal as an amendment to other unrelated legislation on national defense. This bill will be catastrophic to the millions of minority businesses relying on credit cards as part of their business operations.

Why proposed rural groundwater control bills are bad

There has been a lot of talk recently about rural groundwater bills not getting a hearing at the Arizona Legislature. Over the years, proposed legislation has gone by many names, including “Groundwater Conservation Areas,” “Special Management Areas,” “Rural Management Areas,” and “Local Groundwater Stewardship Areas.” Regardless of the name, the concept is the same, and all are bad[...]

Negative ads in political campaigns effective despite virtue signaling

Robert Grossfeld does a nice job of virtue signaling in his opinion piece on campaign ads. I am sure the political consulting class all had a good laugh and went right on creating the next piece of disinformation or propaganda for their clients, which they should.

Lake Pleasant’s deadly toll: stay alert, know the law and save lives!

The haunting trend of drowning accidents at Lake Pleasant has taken a distressing turn, with eight tragic deaths already recorded in 2023. Shockingly, five of these fatalities occurred after Memorial Day, indicating a spike over six weeks. Maricopa County Supervisor Thomas Galvin voiced his alarm earlier this summer expressing deep concern about the number of rising, fatal boating accidents transp[...]

Hobbs should terminate the Saudi lease in Butler Valley

In recent months Kris Mayes, the newly elected Attorney General, has urged Governor Hobbs to deny Fondomonte’s application to renew a lease. All Arizonans should also urge Governor Hobbs to direct the State Land Commissioner to reject the lease application and to restore the Butler Valley as a designated groundwater reserve to be held in trust for Arizona’s future.

Include families to help with serious mental illness

By now most of you have probably heard if not witnessed firsthand that we are in the midst of a mental health crisis of historic breadth and complexity. Arizona is far from alone in this crisis.

How Congress can close the digital divide

Arizona is in line to receive almost $1 billion in federal funds as a massive new broadband infrastructure initiative, the Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment (BEAD) Program, gets underway. This major investment will make a big difference for residents of our state.

FDA must finish the job on illegal vapes

There’s a rampant public health crisis in the lurking shadows that is impacting our most vulnerable. This crisis has been quietly escalating in our homes, schools, and communities, while the responsible agencies have only recently woken up to the threat: the flood of illegal disposable, flavored vapes, predominantly made in China, and marketed directly to our children.

Lying about universal ESA vouchers won’t hide the truth

“If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it.” This political propaganda technique is the playbook for special interests pushing school vouchers in Arizona. But the “big lie” only works as long as its consequences remain hidden — and when it comes to vouchers, Arizona has entered the “lie big and find out” phase.

Basic math – ESAs save the state money

Opponents of parental choice in education are doing their best Chicken Little in an attempt to scare Arizonans out of allowing parents control over their children’s education. But all the cries of “bankruptcy” and attempts at creative math cannot change the simple fact that giving parents a choice on how to best educate their children actually saves the state money.

Remove lethal, illegal vapes from kids’ reach

Protecting children and young adults from dangerous drugs and unregulated products should be a top priority for elected officials in all levels of government. We are in the midst of a national crisis as fentanyl continues to spread across every corner of the country and unregulated vaping products multiply on store shelves targeting young children.
